Heiner Müller’s Hamlet Machine
Heiner Müller’s Hamlet Machine, created significant impact and change in dramaturgy and performance in the European theatre, is based on Shakespeare’s masterpiece, Hamlet, and built on the past efforts of reckoning.
General idea was the bloody history of Europe, which underwent two consecutive world wars. This history, is located across the street like a ghost of Hamlet, including the communist system. The system derives benefit from past, are forced all men and women to mechanization. As mechanization increases, the human body injures and pain traps the souls into those bodies; these facts are emphasized in the play and the play calls the audience to participate in a different adventure.
The characters of the play are Hakan Meriçliler, Neriman Uğur, Selma Kuray, Yıldırım Gücük, Murat Yatman, Onur Serimer and Elif Nutku as an actress and also a singer.
The play was pretty intense and the décor, illumination and ambience were striking. Besides, the characters also were good at reflecting the feelings to the audience. The play helps the audience to forget our daily troubles and struggles and to turn back to the past just for a couple of hours. Subsequently, the play is in the list of plays that one must have seen at least once.
