The Department of English Language and Literature is pleased to announce the undergraduate conference on the question of women in Anglo-American Literature. The conference aims to celebrate and appreciate International Women’s Day with new horizons of young participants. Another goal of the conference is to encourage students by providing a platform to enable an early participation in the academic world. The conference will focus on the representations of women in literature, fine arts, and screen and stage performances in the British and American literature and culture. Possible topics may include, but are not limited to:


  • Women’s rights and politics
  • Women and diaspora
  • Women travellers/travel writing
  • Women and fiction/non-fiction
  • Women and religion
  • Women in the web of power relations
  • Women and resistance
  • Women and the media
  • Women and technology
  • Women, health and poverty
  • Sexualities of women
  • Feminist theory in literature and culture


We invite you to submit a proposal of 300-350 words until 15 December 2018. Please do not forget to attach your proposal file and write your full name, contact information, university and current study level in your e-mail body. Send your e-mail to Proposals in English will be reviewed by the committee on the basis of academic value and originality. Notifications of acceptance will be sent by the end of January, 2019. Paper presentations should not exceed 15 minutes. The conference will take place at Prof. Dr. Tuğrul İnal Hall in the Faculty of Letters.
